Domaine Margelle Wines

Our first estate bottling began with a difficult year. A cold and wet vintage, 2007 was a challenge for any wine maker, but for us it was a true test to see what this land, this soil and place could produce.

Domaine Margelle is situated at a slightly higher elevation than most other vineyards, between 800 and 900 feet on Nekia and McCully soil. The trick for our vines was to get the fruit to ripen before the winter wet set in. Our Dimon 115 and Pommard clones are over 15 years old so they are well established on our rocky site. Still, we have to coax the best out of them in a cool year.

Working together with award-winning winemakers Mark Vlossak (St. Innocent Winery) and Sean Driggers (Pudding River Winery) we began to evaluate viticulture practices to see what worked and what didn't under these cooler circumstances. The result was a wonderfully unique expression of what Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris should be. We think others must agree as we sold out of our first vintage.

Moving forward we continue to work with Mark and Sean to tease out the fullest expression of taste from our site. Together, we are experimenting with different types of barrels, old and new, along with types of wood and degree of toasting.

We invite you to join us on a journey of discovery to see what our eastern Willamette Valley vineyard can produce.

2008 Pinot Noir

Our 2008 Pinot Noir is characterized at first by its earthy mushroom and mineral notes followed by hints of light cherry and raspberry fruit. The wine is Burgundian in style and can be drunk now or cellared. We think the result is a wonderful expression of all that is uniquely Domaine Margelle.

Bottle $33.00    Case $360.00

2009 Pinot Gris

Our Pinot Gris is bright with hints of citrus and well balanced acids. Harvested from our 'rock block' we think this year's Pinot Gris will rival previous years. Created by award winning winemaker, Sean Driggers, this wine is perfect for the summer.

Bottle $19.00    Case $225.00
